The Youth Mentorship Program is a partnership between the Chamber and Pocahontas County High School. Pocahontas County High School students are required to complete a “72-hour work-based learning experience (mentorship)” in order to graduate. The program provides opportunities for our young people to experience business and work first hand and helps students make informed career decisions after graduation.
Students gain skills and build relationships for future work opportunities through their career mentorships. Mentorships are typically completed during the summer before a student’s senior year and must correspond to the student’s particular field of study.
A directory of participating businesses is available through the Chamber. The Chamber thanks Snowshoe Foundation for supporting this project. Members interested in being a mentor may contact the Chamber office.
In addition to the Young Mentorship Program, the Chamber’s annual Career Day at Pocahontas County High School allows our area businesses, institutions and nonprofits to engage students on volunteer opportunities, healthy living strategies, mentorship options and career options.
This year, the program will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at PCHS.
