Linda Simmons began working for The Pocahontas County Chamber of Commerce in September 2013. As our Community Liaison, she works up to 20 hours per week. Please feel free to call her to assist you with your business and/or community needs.
Prior to joining The Chamber of Commerce, she worked for The West Virginia University Extension Service for 34 years and served in Pocahontas, Marion and Greenbrier Counties.
Some of her Chamber duties performed to date have included: updating the membership, sending e-mail blasts about events and activities happening in Pocahontas County, Career/Mentorship Fair evaluation, compiling a list of potential members, prepared a fall newsletter, recruiting volunteers for the 2013 Road-Kill Event, and general public relations. She will have an active role in activities involved with The 2014 Annual Autumn Harvest Festival featuring The West Virginia Road Kill Cook-Off.
Since she joined The Chamber, one educational breakfast meeting has been held featuring “The Blueprint Communities Program,” a program that will feature activities over a 12 month period. Activities may include: Community meetings for merchant and consumers around the county, last Friday of the month special event to promote our merchants and service providers all around the county, advertising campaign showcasing merchants and service providers, a business fair and a buy local challenge. Marvina Irvine, Blueprint Team Member, presented the program to 18 attendees.
Additional educational meetings will be planned in the future and anyone with suggestions for topics, should contact the Chamber. The next session will occur in the spring and will feature the topic of Small Business.
Pocahontas County Chamber of Commerce Board meetings are held the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m.
